Fat Man and Little Boy

Dropping the two Atomic Bombs on to Japan. I know that it saved the US so many troops but just the fact of thinking of all the little kids, men, women, who died but who were completely inoccent. What did they do to deserve that? We learned that this is something Japan is still dealing with, it not something that just goes away after the bomb is dropped. The radiation from the bomb will be on the soil of Japan for many years to come.  I remember watching a movie in class and a man from the movie even said that he wished the war didnt have to end that way, even if it was better for us, I think its still sad that all those people had to die.

My thoughts on Peleliu

I think that fact that we lost all those men...and for what? Nothing. We didnt even use Peleliu's airstrip. I hate to think that all those men that we lost, were a waste of a life. If we just didnt attack at Peleliu we would have  saved more lives and they would have been a better help to us. Taking Peleliu was just another step in the way of taking control of Japan, also we ade sure to attack the Philipines. During the invasion of the Philippines, we also would use bomb raids on the mainlands of Japan. However they would not surrender.

Mussolini's Death

The fact that Mussolini was shot and then beaten is messed up! I cant believe that the government allowed people to beat his face in after he was killed. Not only did that surprise me but they also took him and all the people killed by the firing squad and hung them by their feet on a gas station.  I think its inappropriate that they allowed them to do  that, because I thought you were supposed to respect the dead not beat them up. I honestly dont see the point in beating him up any, he was already dead and it wasnt like it was going to hurt him anyway.

Holocaust Museum

Being at the Holocaust Museum and seeing real items that were either worn or owned by someone from the death camps was fasinating. I hate to say I enjoyed going and learning more about the camp but thats pretty much what happened. I like when that guy was talking to us about his journey through the camps and how he managed to get him and his sister out alive and how he was aloud to see her everynight. Also the room of remebrance  was pretty cool. I feel like if iw as someone who survived that knowing that people cared and made a room for my loved ones would be something that I would appreciate.

Paratroopers

I remember reading a story about a paratrooper that was about to jump when the plane he was in was hit by a shell and he was shot back and had to make the decision to either stand up and jump or to let his men go without him...he made the choice to stand back up and go with his men and make a dying chance. A half hour after this happened his body was found still in his chute, people are unaware to as if the fall killer his or if it was from blood loss on the way down. I think the fact that he was able to stand up and jump with his men is incrediable...not only does that show dedication to his men but it also shows hes willing to fight for what he loves. Somepeople would argue that it was a loss of a life but to me it shows that he didnt want to give up, that he knew he wouldnt be the only one that got hurt but he could be the one that did something or tried to do something before he did pass.

D-Day

In real life did the water at Normandy turn red or was that just for special effect in Saving Private Ryan? Either way the amount of men killed in the short period of tiem they were on the beach is insane...I cant even imagine sitting in the boat knowing that this would be the last time that I would most likly see any of the men that are  there with me.  Also when those doors open and everyone in front of you is getting shot and you dont know what to do besides try and stay alive. I dont know how most of those men didnt just freeze in fear. I think that the fact that most of the men couldnt even make it to the beach is crazy because that just shows that that Germans had the advantage in this part of the war...until our men broke through.

The Poisonous Mushroom

In class, Mr. McKenna gave us a story to read, it was called The Poisonous Mushroom. Basically the moral of this childrens book, is make German children hate Jewish people for stupid, nonexistent reasons. I remember that in a part of the story, they come to say that a single Jew can take out a whole village of Germans.  They also say that Jewish people pretend to be nice just to scam people out of money.  Another major point this story makes about Jews is that not all non-Jewish people know that Jewish people are bad...but that the son can help by letting people know how bad a Jewish person is.

Auschwitz

As the time goes on, Auschwitz started killing more and more of the Jew being killed in German. Finally almost all Jewish people being killed in German was in Auschwitz. The mass gassings of the Jewish, just became more and more of a day to day reocccurence. At one point Im pretty sure the Germans got so used to killing them that they didnt think anything of it.  There have been times when Jewish Prisoners tried to escape the horrible death camps, but more times than not, they didnt make it  out alive. However there have been very minimal times when only a  couple prisons got away and snuck into France.  This wouldnt have been a problem if the France hadnt sided with German and chose to round up all the Jews that werent legal and send them off the death camps.

Stalingrad

I remember watching a movie in class about Stalingrad and the Red Army would actually kill their own men if they tried to retreat. Which I don't understand how they can kill the men that are running back to them, if they, themselves are just sitting there in the first place. Also why would you want to the killer of someone who is trying to help your side out...wouldn't the other guys killing them be enough.  Doesn't winning a war have a part where you actually need men...by the rate the Russian Army is going, that they are going to have any men left.  Another thing is, if you were to shoot someone that was on your side would you play it off, by saying that they were killing in battle? Like what if the same man that killed someone had to go to the family of the dead man and tell them that their father, husband, son, brother, uncle. or whatever he was to them was now dead.  Would that soldier have to confess that he in fact was the man that took his life.

Pavlov's House

When Mr. McKennna told us about how Pavlo and his men help off the Germans for 58 days and succeeded, I was amazed.  I couldnt believe that for that whole two months a group of men help off so many Germans especially since they Germans had to have been coming in groups bigger than the Russian group.  However, not that things would have been easier but the fact that Germans werent using artillery strikes gave the Russians somewhat of an advantage because they just had to worry about killing the men and not have to think about being bombed from the air.
